Location:  Dede Ewald Room
Contact:   / /
Description:  Our Smile Club (OSC) is a grassroots movement created by one woman, Madaline Weber, who had a thought to doodle, created a design, and had another thought to share it with the world. So, she made copies of her famous SMILE cards, and with random acts of kindness she invited individuals to join Our Smile Club. The only rule of the team is to smile at others in order to assist in healing our world one smile at a time.

Since April of 2014 over 8,000 copies have been circulated and live in windows, on dressers, in cars, on refrigerators and offices all around the world. The responses to these cards, these acts of bravery and kindness have spread. In Cottonwood, Arizona, these cards live in most business windows and Madaline is famous in her home town as the Smile Lady and the Great Hugger.

Conscious communication can be defined as a way of talking and listening that is focused on growing strong, mutually enriching relationships. Our Smile Club is a new discussion group focusing on conscious communication that will meet at the library every Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. starting on January 4. OSC is about discovering your personal foundation where one can find certainty in relationships with self and others.

The views, information, or opinions expressed during this program are solely those of the individuals involved and do not necessarily represent those of the City of Cottonwood or its employees.

Volunteers serve at thousands of local organizations that:
  • Help children learn to read and provide one-on-one tutoring
  • Mentor troubled teenagers and young mothers
  • Care for premature infants or children with disabilities
  • Help children who have been abused or neglected
All you need to join is the ability to give the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on the path toward a successful future. If you’re 55 or older and want to share your experience and compassion, you have what it takes to be a Foster Grandparent.

Location:  The Dede Ewald Room
Contact:  Susan / (928) 274-6289 / susankayejones@gmail.com
Description:  This core Baha’i teaching takes a step beyond the Golden Rule. That law, found in all the major religions, teaches us to treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves.  But the Baha’i Faith calls us to a higher understanding — that we are all part of one unified reality, like the individual cells in all living things.  When we harm others, we harm ourselves.

Description:  The Baha’i Faith regards the current world confusion and calamitous condition in human affairs as a natural phase in an organic process leading ultimately to the unification of the human race in a single social order whose boundaries are those of the planet.

Location:  The Dede Ewald Room
Contact:  Susan / (928) 274-6289 / susankayejones@gmail.com
Description:  The sacred books of the world predict both global catastrophe and world peace. Bahá'í scripture anticipates, extends, and interprets such prophecies; sometimes literally, sometimes spiritually, and occasionally in both these ways.

   Saturday, October 26, 2019

12:30 PM - 1:30 PM    Prophecy Part 2: A Baha'i Perspective

Location:  The Dede Ewald Room
Contact:  Susan / (928) 274-6289 / susankayejones@gmail.com
Description:  Humanity is only now beginning to see itself as an international community in need of a world order and internationally regulated justice. It would be perhaps impossible to find a nation or people not in a state of crisis today. The materialism, the lack of true religion and the consequent baser forces in human nature which are being released, have brought the whole world to the brink of probably the greatest crisis it has ever faced or will have to face.

Description:  The Baha’i Faith teaches “Every Prophet Whom the Almighty and Peerless Creator hath purposed to send to the peoples of the earth hath been entrusted with a Message, and charged to act in a manner that would best meet the requirements of the age in which He appeared.”  Baha’u’llah

   Saturday, December 14, 2019

Location:  The Dede Ewald Room
Contact:  Susan / (928) 274-6289 / susankayejones@gmail.com
Description:  Know thou that when the Son of Man [Jesus] yielded up His breath to God, the whole creation wept with a great weeping. By sacrificing Himself, however, a fresh capacity was infused into all created things.
